Advent Day 24: Hope Character

Writing Challenges

Event details

Happy Christmas Eve if you celebrate it, and Happy Holidays either way! Today's the last official day of Advent, although there will be a Christmas bonus tomorrow. For our final character exercise, give us something about a character related to the theme of hope. You may use one or both of the prompts below to help inspire you. If you write fic, share it in the library and tag it with 'advent day 24' so I can find it. Otherwise, feel free to leave it as a comment here!

Like the other advent events, there's no hard deadline on this. Try to get it done December 24th, but if you need to do it early or late -- well, better to participate than not!

Keep track of all the Advent challenges here!

Here are the prompts:

“There is a crack in everything.
That's how the light gets in.”
― Leonard Cohen, Selected Poems, 1956-1968

I think most characters will have hope. Maybe not at first in a story because of course there is usually an event that breaks them apart. Eventually however, a character gains hope somehow, whether it be through a mentor or lover or something else, and will eventually move the story forward. Hope seems to me like a very important concept in a story, when the character has hope, so does the reader. Although, sometimes even when a character does not have hope to move him/her forward, the reader will have hope for them.
