What is/are your favorite movie(s) and TV show(s)? The Magicians, Dance Me Outside, The Muppets

Writing

How long have you been writing? Since I was a child, but there was a 20 years break while I held my breath and forgot to raise a family.

What was the first story you wrote that you remember? (Is it finished, and has anyone read it?) Oh boy, I think it was a retelling of a story about a local haunted house.

Tell us a little about your favorite character to write about. Oh, my two specific favs are a mage who is, at the start of his arc, basically a hidebound accountant. The other one is a girl who's ever so gay and ever so tall. They're both examples of people whose worldview is very self-centered and not all that honest I LOVE that dynamic because it gives me an automatic arc I can unravel as I tell a story, namely making them confront the truth they've been hiding from themsevles about how things actually work.

Tell us a little about a fantasy world you've created. The big picture is that it's a world where one god is rooted in everything and magic is it's will shaped by faith and belief. Small picture is that it starts in a little fishing village that's very much based on rural life around where I live.

Tell us a little about your current work in progress. How's it going? It's going! I've written mostly short stories before, so a novel length story is new. I was doing well, 15k word in when I realized I didn't know where to go with it. I picked up Anatomy of Story by John Truby and that has completely reshaped my experience. Big revelation: I'm NOT a pantster. I thought I was because I can sit down and write a short story without outlining, but of course those are short enough that I was outlining in my head. I'm now 3k words into the 2nd attempt at the novel and things are going much better.

Have you participated in NaNoWriMo? If so, how has your experience been?  Yup! I won it in 2016 and have tried again but I think I just needed to do it once to prove to myself I could write that much n a month.
