as long as I can remember
What was the first story you wrote that you remember? (Is it finished, and has anyone read it?)
In grade 3 I got upset that my teacher wouldn't allow me to do my book report on the hobbit so instead I wrote my own story about a dragon and did my book report on that. I failed the project because I was being "Stubborn and foolish" and "Dragons aren't real" and "How dare you raise her to believe something so evil"... my mother decked the teacher in the face. I have that story framed and mounted in my workspace as inspiration.
Tell us a little about your favorite character to write about.
Dakon Fenrir is a character I created as a main love interest. Originally I didn't intend for his backstory to become so deeply rooted in the lore of the world but as I continued writing and developing his character he eventually evolved into a protagonist but not by his own will. The enemy is whispering things into his mind driving him to slowly lose his sanity. It's very fun for me to write from the perspective of a character that is losing grip on reality and his own sense of morals, I love writing a character that is doing something terrible for the greater good. A villain isn't necessarily evil they just appear that way because we have different morals that them. I love a villain you can empathize with and that's what Dakon is for me.
Tell us a little about a fantasy world you've created.
There's so much to it that its hard to sum up. The world itself is imbued with magic from Isfur (God of creation). It was his gift to the world and the beings inhabiting it. Isfur The Light, Niah Goddess of Death, Millah The Wise, Brundi God of War. These are the gods that watch over Midland (The realm of mortals) There are Firstborns, which are the equivalent of high elves, they believe themselves better than the gods and have isolated themselves from the world and the voice of the gods. The Ashen are woodland elves, Niah created them from the ashes of a charred forest to become a symbol of the cycle of life and how it should be respected. Humans are fairly mundane and as we are but some have been gifted with magic. If they're family lived in an area enriched with magic they would be naturally talented as a mage. The other way magic is obtained is if the gods have blessed your family and the magic is inherited. Velekan are half-giant folk that live in tribes, their women are warriors while men raise their children. Dragons have their own religion worshiping the sun, though not many are around after the Dragonwars. Niah's blossom is a unique flower that grows on Dryads, it is said that it is the only means to gain immortality but the dryads (all but two of them) were destroyed by the gods and nobody has seen the blossom since the Dragonwars.
Tell us a little about your current work in progress. How's it going?
Lanai Kidswell, daughter of retired war hero and general and half elf, is attacked one night in her home. The attackers are looking for her mother who has been dead for years and the only clue Lanai has to their whereabouts after they flee is the army. Lanai deceives her father and her Lover (Dakon Fenrir), disguises herself as a man, and joins the army to find the people that attacked her kill them. Doing so she hopes to prove herself a capable warrior to her father. Along the way she meets Tegan, her bunkmate (Who she absolutely despises) that appears to be keeping secrets of his own.
