  1. I'm still new to these forums. But here is my profile if anyone wants to be buddies. https://nanowrimo.org/participants/lucycanon
  2. Basics Name/Penname: Lucy (this is a pen name) Age: 33 State/country: USA, Kentucky Education: BA in Computer Graphics Hobbies and Favorites What are your hobbies? (Other than writing) I do a lot of crafting, sewing, crochet, knitting, costuming, light woodwork. I enjoy a good tabletop RPG and also perform karaoke FAR too often. What is/are your favorite book(s) and authors? Terry Pratchett, Diane Wynn Jones and Tamora Pierce are three of my favorites. I'm also a big fan of Neil Gaiman and Gilbert/Jamie Hernandez What is/are your favorite movie(s) and TV show(s)? I'm a real sucker for episodic television, especially if there is a superhero, alien or wizard in it. And I have watched FAR too much of it. (Frequently when I am sewing/crocheting as mentioned above.) Some of my go-tos are Buffy, Charmed, Gilmore Girls, Stargate SG-1. Currently watching American Horror Story with my husband. And rewatching episodes of Schitt's Creek when I cannot fall asleep. Writing How long have you been writing? Ages, but never very seriously. Wrote my first (VERY rough draft) of a novel over the summer and loved it, so thought I might try writing some more. What was the first story you wrote that you remember? (Is it finished, and has anyone read it?) I wrote the 'Myth of the Painted Bunting' for a short story contest in elementary school. About a beautiful space princess who's world was being destroyed but she sang so beautifully that the (gods?) saved her life by turning her into a beautiful bird. It won an award in my school, I have no idea what happened to it but I remember being VERY proud at the time. Tell us a little about a fantasy world you've created. I've been slowly building a fairly traditional fantasy world (which has not been named yet) that I've been filling with retelling of classic fairy tales and my own spins on a lot of traditional races. There are Elves who live in the 'Golden Hollows' a land filled with trees whose leaves are yellow all year round so a lot of the wildlife has a lighter tawny color. In general they are a very attractive race and have developed 'glamour magic' to manipulate people into doing what they want as long as they can maintain eye contact. Saytrs who, because of their high tolerance for liquor, have developed 'alcohol magic' which can only be performed when drunk. Anthzoa, a sentient bipedal race of coral capable of walking & talking. A thriving central city called 'Great Lantiser', which sits on top of a tall cliff, plagued by earthquakes and constantly threatens to fall into the sea. On the sign out above the city gates the letters 'er' are dangling by a single nail and 'Gre' at the beginning is missing altogether. (Someone should really fix that.) Tell us a little about your current work in progress. How's it going? Working on a supernatural urban fantasy about 'superheros' who gain powers after having a near death experience. I like my characters but I've really lost my way with the plot. I've 'pantsed' about 20k words which is, traditionally for me, when I realize that I do not have a proper antagonist. I'm reconsidering my stance on outlines. Have you participated in NaNoWriMo? If so, how has your experience been? I've tried it a couple times before & failed every time and it made me HATE trying to outline. But managed to pull it off with a PURE pantsing over the summer. I've been riding that writing high ever since. Worldsmyths How did you find out about Worldsmyths? A link on the Nano forums. What made you decide to join? It seems like it is full of like minded adults. Who just want excited gush about their latest idea/breakthrough. I was hoping to find a community like that so I could stop annoying my husband with it. What do you hope to gain from Worldsmyths? (Examples: Find a beta reader, get feedback, motivation, a sense of community, fine-tuning the craft, etc) A little bit of everything. I'm still finding my footing in the online writing community so I'm open to almost anything.
