untilNaNoWriMo is over, and it's back to monthly writing challenges! This month you have a choice of two challenges: 1. Write a story that ends in a cliffhanger. Torture us. Leave us wanting more. But in a good way! (and/)OR 2. Pick 3 or more ideas you played with for the daily Advent Calendar challenges and combine them to write a new story. Word Limit: No minimum; max of 5000 words Deadline: Monday, December 31st, 5:00pm GMT-5 (the event may show 5pm in your home timezone, but it closes at 5pm Eastern Standard Time!) If you're planning on entering, we'd really appreciate you RSVPing so we get an idea of what turnout will be! There's a maybe option if you aren't sure 🙂 How do I submit? Easy! Just add it as a story to the Library and tag it with "dec 18 challenge." You can comment here or on the associated topic if you want to make sure we don't miss your submission, but as long as you tag it correctly and submit on time we should see it! Voting will go up sometime the evening of the 31st.

Thursdays are for World Mythos. For today's challenge, tell us about a god in your world (or the myth of one) that relates to love in some way. Alternatively, you may invent a god to go with the picture below! Try to get this complete December 6th, but if you can't, feel free to submit it early or late as needed! Post your response here, unless you feel inspired to write a flash fic piece and post it in the Library; in that case, tag it with "advent day 6" so I can find it. Keep track of all the Advent challenges here!

Mondays are for character during Advent season. Your challenge today is to tell us a little about a character, but the character has to relate in some way to one or both of the prompts below. Your response should just be a comment on this event, unless you end up writing a piece of flash fiction and want to put it in the Library. In that case, tag it with "advent day 3" so I can find it. There's no hard deadline, though of course the goal is to get it done December 3rd. Keep track of all the Advent challenges here! Now, here are your prompts: AND/OR

Tuesdays are for Traditions and Celebrations! Tell us a little about a tradition or celebration centering around childbirth in your world. Just like our other advent challenges, there's no hard deadline, although the goal is to complete this December 4th. Post your responses as comments on this event, unless you get inspired into writing a flash fic that you want to put in the Library! In that case, tag it with "advent day 4" so I can find it. Keep track of all the Advent challenges here!

It's a Plot Wednesday during our Advent Calendar Challenge! Plot is a trickier one, so we'll make it a bit more open-ended with two choices, each involving conflict in a loving relationship. Complete this December 5th if you can, but if you can't do it on time, don't let that stop you if you still want to try! Comment here with your responses, or if you feel inspired to write a flash fic piece, post it in the library with the tag "advent day 5" so I can find it. Keep track of all the Advent challenges here! Here are your two prompts. Tell us about the hardest conflict faced by two of your characters who love each other. (Doesn't have to be romantic love.) OR Invent a conflict these two will have to face:

Sundays are for magic! Your prompt today is to tell us a little about a magic that interferes with the natural course of love, or a magic that is powered or influenced by love. This is a casual prompt and there's no need to write a story for it, although if it inspires you to write flash fic, by all means, do it! Post your responses as comments on this post. (If you do end up writing flash fiction, you may post that in the library and tag it with "advent day 2") Again there is no hard deadline on this, although the goal is to get it done on December 2nd! Keep track of all the Advent challenges here!

Worldsmyths Advent Calendar Writing Challenge I did a bit of research into Advent, and it turns out there are typically four main themes of Advent. There can be some variation, but I went with a common set of four: Love, Joy, Faith, and Hope. So I've split our Advent Calendar into four arcs with these themes, and I'll post them one arc at a time to give people with complicated holiday schedules a chance to work ahead if they need to. The goal here is to do something small and writing-related every day, in this case based on a brief Advent prompt. I'll be putting the Advent challenges on the calendar, and you can respond to them directly there -- or, if you write flash fic and want to add it to the Library, tag it according to the instructions on the calendar event! I'll keep track of people's entries here. Day 1: Love Flash Fic Heartsong by @LivvyMoore Keeping you awake. by @Kenaron Fleeting by @Mynoris Insomnia by @Manu In Dreams by @kherezae Day 2: Love Magic @Manu (commented) @Mynoris (commented) @kherezae (commented) Rekindled Lies by @LivvyMoore @Penguinball (commented) Day 3: Love Character Trespass by @kherezae @Penguinball (commented) @Manu (commented) Day 4: Love Tradition @Penguinball (commented) @kherezae (commented) @Mynoris (commented) Day 5: Love Plot @Penguinball (commented) @kherezae (commented) Day 6: Love Mythos @Penguinball (commented) Day 7: Joy (Writer's Choice) @Manu (commented) Day 8: Joy Flash Fic Day 9: Joy Magic @Penguinball (commented) Day 10: Joy Character Day 11: Joy Tradition @Penguinball (commented) Day 12: Joy Plot Day 13: Faith Mythos Day 14: Faith (Writer's Choice) Day 15: Faith Flash Fic Day 16: Faith Magic Day 17: Faith Character Day 18: Faith Tradition

In the hopes that Saturdays are a little freer for most people, Advent Saturdays will be for Flash Fic. Write a piece of flash fantasy fiction with a soft word limit of 500 words. (If you go a little over, that's fine, but the goal is to keep it short.) Your challenge response can be posted as a comment on this calendar event, or you may post it in the Library and tag it with "advent day 1" so that I can find it easily! The goal is to get it done December 1st, but late writing is better than no writing, so if you miss the deadline submit it anyway! This isn't a challenge we'll vote on, so there's no need for a hard deadline. Keep track of all the Advent challenges here! Your prompt is an AND/OR situation: "They say when you can't sleep at night, it's because someone is thinking about you." AND/OR
